Questions from Kelly:
- Favorite book you’ve read so far this year?
So far this year, I think my favorite book has been Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman. I was so excited to read it after finishing Scythe and by the end I was so angry and shocked. It took me a while to stop crying into my pillow and really think about how he ended things. It’s just so brilliant and amazing. I know the series isn’t for everyone but I absolutely love it & I cannot wait until the third book comes out and I finally get some answers to all those questions that have been nagging me for months!!
- Favorite trope?
Right now, I think my favorite trope is probably fake boyfriend. That gets me pretty much every time. It’s also pretty hard to mess up an enemies to lovers storyline too… ❤
- Least favorite trope?
Instalove!!! Ahhhhh…. that drives me insane. We should be calling it Instalust instead because that absolutely exists. I especially dislike this trope when it is used because it seems like the author is too lazy to go through the effort of crafting a believable connection.
Also, this is becoming WAY less used these days but I still see it out there occasionally – The gay male friend and the slutty female friend. I feel like I shouldn’t have to explain why…
- A character you have a crush on and why?
I will always love Josh from The Hating Game. He is incredibly sweet and thoughtful with just the right amount of snarky protectiveness that makes him wonderful and not overbearing. I also love how he lets Lucy take care of him a bit without feeling threatened. ❤
- Who’s an author you’d like to spend a day with and what would you do with them?
I would hang out with Leigh Bardugo. I think we would probably get something delicious to eat (like coffee & dessert!) and then I’d probably want to go shopping with her. I can totally see us buying creepy antique furniture together 😀
- Favorite place to read?
Snuggled up on the couch while my baby is playing nicely on the floor next to me. ❤ Perfect afternoon.
- Favorite mythical creature?
Dragons baby!! ❤ The nice ones & the scary evil ones.
- Favorite book title?
I love Strange the Dreamer and Muse of Nightmares. Great titles!!
- What’s a story that you would like to read a retelling of?
If you would have asked me this exact question a year ago, I would have said The Little Mermaid but OMG now we have half a dozen of those coming out every month lol!! I can always read retellings of the classics – Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Beauty & the Beast, etc… I’m a sucker for those.
- One of your favorite book quotes?
Many boys will bring you flowers. But someday you’ll meet a boy who will learn your favorite flower, your favorite song, your favorite sweet. And even if he is too poor to give you any of them, it won’t matter because he will have taken the time to know you as no one else does. Only that boy earns your heart.
–Leigh Bardugo, Six of Crows
- What’s a book that you’ve been meaning to read for a long time?
I’ve been doing a great job on catching up on those books I’ve had on my lists forever. I need to read The Cruel Prince still!! That one is pretty high on my TBR backlog since I recently finished Strange the Dreamer.
Thanks for reading guys!! I’m not going to tag anyone this time. If you see that and really want to play, please feel free to answer Kelly’s questions too (they were REALLY good questions!!) & tag us both so we can read your answers.
Happy Reading everyone!! ❤
I love these answers! I wish my 3 kids played together nicely more often…
My husband had the gall to tell me I read enough when I complained about how it makes me feel lonely when we do not go to bed at the same time, but I really love that quiet reading time at the end of the day.

Whaaaaat?! Read enough? LOL – what does that look like? How rude!
I totally get the quiet at the end of the day! Sometimes I think I wouldn’t be as tired if I went to bed a little earlier but I can’t imagine not having that bit of time where I don’t have to worry about what trouble my toddler is getting himself into… 😀 I read then too. ❤

I agree. Even if they manage to nap during the day it’s not nearly as relaxing because they could wake up any moment and cause more trouble!

I would have chosen Bardugo too if I had to answet this, but we wouldn’t buying furniture though xD.
I also agree that this year was all about mermaid retellings! I am one step closer to writing my Cinderella re-telling so I am glad there are people who may enjoy it.

Yay! Yup – last year I thought “I should write a Little Mermaid retelling, no one is doing that…” hahaha…. I’m totally down to read your Cinderella! DO IT!
You wouldn’t go antique shopping with Bardugo? I originally thought we could get our nails done together (he nails are always fabulous) but I thought that would be WAY too girly and obnoxious. I like shopping because it’ll give us a chance to talk about books 😀

When you think about something then everyone will suddenly do it also!
So I approve the tea and dessert thing but I’d rather go with her to a bookstore, that would be cooler!

Yes, fake boyfriends! Like… To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before <3. haha! I love that quote by Bardugo. It's so true! I can't wait for you to read The Cruel Prince! It's so good. I'm reading Strange the Dreamer for book club next month! I am excited. 🙂

I am sooo excited to read Scythe and I already bought Thunderhead so they are just staring at me from my shelves. And who doesn’t love Josh! He is so cute. Love your post!

Ahh these are amazing answers! 😍I really enjoyed reading them and agree with so many of them! I loooved Scythe and I’m planning on starting Thunderhead really soon. I’m so glad to hear that you loved it! The only book I’ve read with the fake boyfriend trope (at least that’s coming to mind) is To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before but based on that book I could definitely see why you like it because I love the way it’s used between Lara Jean and Peter. Hanging out with Leigh Bardugo would be AMAZING! I also adore the quote you chose, that one really stood out to me too! 🙂 Thanks for answering my questions!! ❤
